Become a home based travel agent how?

I am currently in school to be a travel agent. The goal was to be a home based travel agent and have my own business. I currently work in a travel agency sorta its limited to cruises, tours, resorts etc. Its a large call center and the commision SUCKS anywhere from 5.00 per booking to 50.00 per booking making min wage on top of that. I want my own I just got done working 4 years in the airline industry and I am familiar with the computer programs for delta continental and jet blue I also worked in a hotel reservation center best western for a year when i was younger. Are there any opportunities out there or am I wasting my time. Travel industry is my passion and im willing to give it my all just not sure what offers are legit and which are scams.
